About Chelsi:
Chelsi Arnold was born and raised in Texas – and yes, like most Texans, she tends to be a little biased to the fact that everything is bigger and better in Texas, but hey, it ain’t bragging if it’s true 😉. Chelsi grew up in a single-stop-light town where she spent most of her time playing sports and going to rodeos. Throughout Chelsi’s life, her goals and dreams have changed, but having a close relationship with her friends and family, and her love for creativity has always remained. She is the author of The Sisterhood series and some short stories in a few anthologies. Chelsi is a firm believer that anything is possible. As long as you work hard and have determination, you can accomplish anything.
PoisedPenPro: When did you become a writer?
Chelsi: I have always been a writer. My first ‘book’ I completed was in the second grade. My elementary school had a writing competition for all grade levels. I had always loved reading and writing, but after submitting my book into the competition, my love for writing grew, and I started to dream about becoming a real author someday.
PoisedPenPro: How long did you work on your writing skills before you became published?
Chelsi: I believe I started working on my writing skills from the first day they taught us to write in school. Every single one of my English teachers taught me something new and valuable that helped transform my voice.
PoisedPenPro: Did any other authors or stories influence your writing style?
Chelsi: I wouldn’t say any one author or story has influenced my writing style. I read a lot of books, and I enjoy many different authors and genres. I think having a wide taste in reading has shaped my writing some, but I also think my writing style is unique to me as well.
PoisedPenPro: What do you most enjoy writing?
Chelsi: Like my reading taste, I also love writing about many different topics and genres. I am not someone who can write the same stories over and over. I get bored. I need some excitement and adventure and new things in my life. I love challenges. Writing about new things or about topics I’ve never written about before is the ultimate challenge. It is something I always look forward to.
PoisedPenPro: What do you like least about writing?
Chelsi: I enjoy the whole writing process. Some things are harder than others, but there’s nothing about writing I dislike.
PoisedPenPro: Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.
Chelsi: I feel like characters are a lot like your children; you’re not supposed to have a favorite. I have enjoyed writing each and every single one of my characters. They each hold a special place in my heart.
PoisedPenPro: If you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be?
Chelsi: No matter what, write. Good, bad, just write. A lot of the ‘crap’ you wrote way back when has now been or is being revamped and will find its way into a published book. Be patient and believe.
PoisedPenPro: Are you a Plotter or Panser?
Chelsi: I’m a little bit of both. I have an overall idea of what’s going to happen in my stories (the big scenes and more than likely how it’s going to end) but I have no idea how we get there (the smaller scenes). I let my characters take control of the smaller scenes and eventually it all comes together.
PoisedPenPro: Tell us about the book you’re sharing with us today?
Chelsi: BRAVE, book 1 in The Sisterhood Series
Four women dared to defy the rules...
Twenty-two-year-old Greer Connally believes life is about choices and consequences. When she is drafted with the first group of women in U.S. history, she is constantly challenged by those that neither want nor respect the women draftees.
With the country divided, tensions mount as protests and terrorist attacks break-out across the world. Willing to sacrifice anything for their country, Greer and her teammates embark on a top-secret mission. But when the mission becomes compromised, Greer’s loyalties are quickly tested.
Forced to choose between the lives of her teammates or defying a direct order, Greer must decide which consequence she is willing to live with before time runs out for everyone.
Book excerpt:
I closed my eyes briefly as I soaked up the adrenaline and anticipation flowing through my veins. Nothing compared to the feeling right before a fight. I felt like I stepped into the ring against an undefeated champion. My lips curved up. I loved being the underdog. Proving everyone wrong … money couldn’t buy that feeling.
